Boldly seeking the best Brexit deal for businessMarch 8, 2018
As London First continues to work towards getting the best possible Brexit deal for Business, we met with a number of London’s Labour MPs this week for a warm and open discussion, on our shared priorities.
With exactly one year to go until Brexit, and both the Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader having just outlined their visions for our future relationship with the EU, the meeting was particularly timely.
Key issues of mutual concern for MPs and business leaders were the impacts of Brexit on immigration and skills. With our Skills Commission having launched its Action Plan for consultation this week, we had a rich discussion around tackling uncertainty over our future access to talent and the oncoming impacts of automation.
MPs urged business not to shy away from speaking up where possible and influencing the front benches on key areas of mutual concern.
The government will enter a crucial phase of negotiations in the coming weeks, and we will continue to make the case for the urgency of agreeing a transition deal. We’ve long called for certainty in the form of a deal, and clarity over the key issues that business needs answers on, namely access to international talent and our future customs arrangements.
We look forward to sharing our members’ interests and London First’s thinking with these MPs, and policymakers across parties, to get our capital Brexit-ready.
