Comment on Government’s interim cap on immigration (July 2010)

Commenting on the Government’s implementation of the interim cap on immigration, Baroness Jo Valentine, Chief Executive of London First, said:

“To implement the interim cap on a company by company basis is economically insane. To restrict each business to their international recruitment levels of last year, means that those companies who were in recovery phase last year will have unspent allocation this year, while those still stinging from the recession will have their growth this year strangled. Not good for companies; not good for British workers whose jobs depend on the business these international high flyers could bring, and not good for UK plc. How does this square with Business Secretary Vince Cable’s commitment to business-friendly immigration policies?”
