Home Secretary promises speedier visa service for ChineseApril 4, 2013
Yesterday (3 April), Home Secretary Theresa May announced plans to offer a “faster service” to Chinese nationals applying for visas to visit the UK.
As a proponent and co-founder of the UK China Visa Alliance (UKCVA), set-up in late 2012, London First welcomes the Home Secretary’s announcement and looks forward to seeing tangible improvements to the existing application process.
Recent research from the New West End Company revealed that Britain is currently losing £1.2 billion of tourism spending from Chinese visitors and, without intervention, this figure is forecast to increase to £3.1 billion by 2020. Implemented appropriately, the Home Secretary’s pledge to speed-up the process for these high spending tourists could therefore provide a welcome boost for the UK economy, and for London.
