Launch of Skills London 2012 Apprenticeships vital to business and Government

As National Apprenticeship Week continues, London First, in partnership with Prospects and the National Apprenticeship Service, has announced the dates for Skills London 2012.

Taking place on 23 and 24 November, Skills London – the biggest careers and skills event of its kind – will give young Londoners the opportunity to meet employers and training providers to learn more about apprenticeships and the career paths that are open to them.

Over 30,000 16 – 24 year olds are expected to attend the event at ExCel, along with over 100 exhibitors.

Baroness Jo Valentine, Chief Executive of London First, said:
“Skills London is a great way to inspire young Londoners to achieve more. Apprenticeships are an important part of this. Not only are they a valuable tool in addressing the shortage of youth employment, both Government and business will reap rewards by embracing them.”

Vic Grimes Divisional Area Director – London and The South East for the National Apprenticeship Service, said:
“I’m delighted that we are working in partnership with London First and Prospects at Skills London 2012. These are challenging times yet we are entering a new era of growth for Apprenticeships. Skills London 2012 will play a vital role in widening the understanding of how quality Apprenticeships offer life changing opportunities to apprentices. It is absolutely vital that we equip young people with the skills they need for the future – and the skills that London needs to compete.”

Ray Auvray, Executive Chair, Prospects:
“Prospects is very pleased to be working in partnership with London First and the National Apprenticeship Service in the delivery of Skills London 2012. This is a unique opportunity to inspire thousands of young people towards their future career”.
