London First speaking at Crossrail 2 consultation launch

TfL/Network Rail today launch a second consultation on Crossrail 2 which will look at variations to the proposed route.

The consultation will run for six weeks, from 9 June to 25 July 2014. More information can be found at

David Leam, head of infrastructure at London First (which has led the private sector campaign for Crossrail 2) spoke at the launch event, he said:

“In a city growing by over 100,000 people a year we need to run to stand still when it comes to infrastructure.

“Crossrail 2 will not only reduce the appalling overcrowding that is forecast on many lines into London, it will boost economic growth and enable much-needed house building along the route.

“However, these benefits will only be realised if councils are willing to support significant development above and around new stations. Crossrail 2 should serve pro-growth areas, not no-growth ones.

“Our research also shows the line is eminently affordable, through a mix of public and private sector funding sources.”
