London will grind to a halt without Crossrail 2

Responding to the Mayor’s announcement of a preferred route for Crossrail 2, London First Infrastructure Director David Leam said:

“In a city growing by over 100,000 people a year we need to expand our transport links if the capital is not to grind to a halt. Crossrail 2 will not only reduce the appalling overcrowding that is forecast on many lines into London it will boost economic growth and enable much-needed house building along the route. It will also ensure Euston can cope with the tens of thousands of extra passengers it will handle once HS2 is operational.

“Crossrail 1 showed London’s ability to shoulder the burden of cost and we are confident that a similar deal could be struck for Crossrail 2. We now need ‘Churchillian’ leadership if we are to avoid the decades of delay that beset Crossrail 1 and ensure Crossrail 2 is delivered by 2030.”
