Exploiting our intelligence of our cyber adversaries: understanding and undermining the threat with Misha Glenny, author of ‘DarkMarket: Cyber Thieves, Cyber Cops and You’ & 'McMafia'
Wednesday, 7 December 2011, 6.30pm – 9.30pm
The typical stereotype of a computer hacker is of a smart, lonely individual – a teenage or adult male who’s highly computer literate but short on social skills. But like most stereotypes, it doesn't begin to `tell the whole story. Many believe that knowing more about the different skills, personality traits and methods of operation that cyber criminals use would inform how commerce and law enforcement agencies can more effectively counter the threat they pose. But a lack of information hinders efforts to build a substantive and reliable understanding of the people behind today's cyber crimes.
In this context, this by-invitation-only roundtable is designed to bring together leading security and risk decision makers from across the public and private sector to discuss and propose ideas for how new intelligence into our adversaries can assist in combating the rising cyber threat we face.
To inform the debate Misha Glenny will outline his perspectives on the challenges we face. Misha has spent the last two years travelling the world to interview hackers, victims and law enforcement agencies, and has gained a unique insight into the behaviours and psychology of cyber criminals.
