Promotion of London overseas would benefit the UK as a whole

The Financial Times reports that London is left with 6.5% of national funding for tourism promotion despite two-thirds of overseas visitors spending at least one night in London.

Kit Malthouse, chairman of London & Partners would like to see the city’s strong global brand used to attract visitors to the UK, before “persuading them to go to other parts of the country”.

Since the London 2012 Games, we have seen funding cuts to the bodies promoting London as a leisure and business tourism destination. London is a huge draw for overseas visitors but more can be done to attract more visitors to London, and then on to other parts of the UK, such as giving the immigration authority the necessary resources to combat border control queues.

Promotion of London overseas would benefit the UK as a whole and ensure that the opportunity provided by the Olympics to show the world that London is open for business would be fully explored.
