Response to Grenfell Tower tragedy; next steps for the industry

At our recent Chairman’s breakfast, hosted by Grainger, we heard how the property sector is responding with robust support following the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower. Helen Gordon, Chief Executive, Grainger and Junior Vice President, British Property Federation (BPF) highlighted the four key areas of work taking place:

  • Assistance with temporary and long-term accommodation
  • Information sharing on cladding policy and wider regulations
  • Future government regulation
  • The Public Inquiry

Members can access the most recent explanatory notes as the government seeks to ensure the safety of all relevant buildings through system tests on cladding.

A consultation is taking place on the terms of reference for the Public Inquiry, the BPF has submitted its response and the consultation closes on 4 August.

Finally, as the sector rallied to provide immediate temporary accommodation for Grenfell residents, the Homes and Communities Agency is now focusing on securing permanent homes.

London First members have been greatly supportive. If any further members have housing provision in the boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster we urge you to contact the Homes and Communities Agency.

We will continue to share updates on the Inquiry and developments in government regulation.
