Response to Olympics legacy anouncement by GovernmentNovember 20, 2007
In response to today’s announcement by James Purnell and Tessa Jowell on the Olympics legacy, a London First spokesman said:
“Nobody would argue that the cultural legacy should be sidelined. However, the Government needs to inspire confidence in their long term legacy focus for east London, showing unambiguous vision, strong leadership, allocated resource and clear governance. They need to invest both money and effort into locking this legacy in to the Olympic area.
“With the Olympics as catalyst, we must build a place where community aspirations are enhanced, a thriving economy connected to Europe and the City and a world class leisure destination. And if millions are needed to ensure the cultural legacy, billions to prepare the 2012 Park, then similar investment is needed for wider regeneration. Developers are ready to invest where they are confident that roads, schools and health centres will be built.”
