River
The River Thames, one of London’s landmark features, remains one of London’s most underused resources.
Massive growth in riverside residential and office space – from Putney in the west to the Gateway region in the east – and ever increasing congestion on the capital’s roads provide the perfect backdrop for London to capitalise on both commuter and tourist opportunities provided by the Thames. The Olympics also provide key opportunities for a step change in services and facilities.
London First is working to support the growth and rationalisation of river services. We have been a key player on the development of the GLA's River [Thames] Concordat, and continue to support a number of workstreams. This has so far resulted in real improvements to landside signage, passenger information and marketing, and for new proposals for pier and service development.
