Victory on cabs: response to TfL announcementJanuary 20, 2016
Proposals forcing private-hire cars to provide booking confirmation details to passengers at least five minutes before pick up, have been dropped by Transport for London.
Boris Johnson had announced proposals aimed at tightening regulation of private hire vehicles, but has dropped the most damaging proposals after a three-month consultation.
David Leam, infrastructure director of London First, said:
“TfL’s decision to dump various bad ideas is a victory for common sense and we are pleased that it has come out in support of technological advances.
“The principle of using pricing to manage congestion is more attractive than a crude cap on cabs, but we’d like to see this applied in a more sophisticated way than simply removing the congestion charge exemption for some vehicles.”
