The RTPI ‘State of the Profession’ research last year found that 40% of planners are female. However, a report by Women in Planning, also in 2019, highlighted that only 17% of women fill director and above roles in private planning consultancy. The RTPI ‘Women and Planning’ report paints a vivid picture of sexism within the profession leading to a lack of promotion and a leaky pipeline of talent.
The profession needs to ensure that it is open and inclusive to all and widening its talent pool to ensure that it has the skills, capacity and diversity of thought required to deliver good growth. This roundtable event will focus on having a meaningful discussion with tangible takeaways on how to recruit, retain and get more women in to leadership positions within the planning profession and the wider real estate industry.
