Skills London 2019 Panel Discussion
Join us on the morning of London First’s Skills London 2019, where we will be bringing together educational experts, business leaders, London Government and young people to debate what are the barriers holding back less advantaged communities in London from accessing skills and work.
Following the discussion, we are delighted to announce that the Mayor of London will be joining us for the Opening Ceremony of Skills London.
We’ll be talking about what’s being done and where are the examples of good practice? How can business harness the talents of all sections of society to tackle this? How might better collaboration between business, education, government and the third sector help, and in particular boost diversity and inclusion in London’s workforce?
London is a highly productive city, with a thriving economy and dynamic labour market. However, it faces significant challenges around accessing skills which risk undermining this success. London has more skills shortages than any other region in the UK and London First research [June 2018] shows that 75% of London employers are currently struggling to find the right skills. Unemployment is particularly high among women, BAME and those with a disability, youth unemployment is higher in London than the rest of the UK.
This panel event, leading on from our Skilling London series, will look at workable solutions to address access to skills for workers and employers.
