As part of our What’s in store: London’s transforming High Streets series, we are convening a roundtable workshop to bring together London First members and stakeholders to investigate why London Boroughs do not make greater use of their Compulsory Purchase Powers. At a time when some boroughs are having to proactively plan for the long term to reposition and strengthen their high streets and town centres, fragmented ownership (both vertically within a building as well as plot by plot) can be a barrier to instigating change. If authorities want to take charge and plan for strategic change, then surely CPOs will need to play a greater role?
