Keeping London at the forefront of global business
working with and for the whole UK
Business Advisory Group launched to take insight into recovery planning
8 June 2020
Tomorrow, we will be hosting the first meeting of our Business Advisory Group: London Recovery, which will feed business thinking and insights into the two Boards announced by the Mayor and Government and attended by London First.
I am thrilled to be joined by leaders from across our membership including EY, Arup, Heathrow, Canary Wharf Group, Imperial, Peabody, D&D, WeWork, Thames Water and UK Power Networks and by our chair, Paul Drechsler, who will kick off proceedings before we appoint an external chair to lead the Advisory Group in its longer-term thinking on recovery. At future meetings, we will also be joined by Metropolitan Thames Valley, Fortnum & Mason and McDonalds.
Our Advisory Group will initially focus on the needs of the city as it unlocks, before turning its attention to the critical issues that will shape our capital’s future: from housing to sustainability, from the future of work to travel in a post COVID-19 world.
I was delighted to have been invited to represent London First on the Recovery Board with the Mayor, Minister for London and London Councils, and Paul will represent us and our members on the Transition Board with the Mayor and the Secretary of State.
I attended the first meeting of the Recovery Board at the end of last week and shared our current thinking on economic recovery, which has been shaped by weeks of engagement with our most senior members – a huge thank you to them for being so focused on London’s recovery at this difficult time.
The Transition Board meets for the first time tomorrow and Paul will share London First members’ insights into unlocking, the vital role of the transport system in London and the need to build confidence in the city once again.
Our Business Advisory Group will ensure that members’ concerns, aspirations and expectations are fed in at all levels. Thank you to everyone who has agreed to join it, and to all our members for your support over the last few weeks.
