London First: All Conservative candidates must champion international students
7 June 2019
Responding to Sajid Javid’s comment in today’s Financial Times that, if elected, he would bring back two-year post-study work visas, Jasmine Whitbread, Chief Executive at London First, said:
“We are delighted that Sajid Javid has listened to strong calls from both business and universities to bring back a two-year post-study work visa, to ensure that we retain global brainpower.
“In London alone, international students generate a net benefit of £2.3 billion each year and support 70,000 jobs – higher education is one of the UK’s most successful exports and it is crucial that those seeking to be Prime Minister do everything they can to protect our world-class universities.
“London First has worked tirelessly to champion the benefits that international students bring to the wider economy. Every candidate must now back this – the UK is a fantastic place to do business, and we must seek to retain sought-after talent post-Brexit.”
