London First comments on EU Withdrawal Agreement Bill
20 December 2019
Commenting on the latest Parliamentary vote on the EU Withdrawal Agreement Bill, Jasmine Whitbread, Executive Director at London First, said:
“Business will be reassured that the Government is moving quickly to avoid a disorderly Brexit at the end of January, but removing the flexibility to extend the transition period risks the UK leaving the EU without a trade deal with our biggest trading partner.
“Leaving the EU on World Trade Organisation terms would introduce tariffs and other barriers, increasing costs for business and consumers alike.
“The Government should commit to working towards a comprehensive trade deal with the EU that protects both the UK economy and public – however long it takes – rather than setting an arbitrary deadline.”
