Commenting on the extension of the ban on business evictions until 2022, Jonathan Seager, Executive Director for Place at London First, said:
“While commercial landlords have acted sensitively towards businesses whose revenues have collapsed during the pandemic, extending the ban on evictions until 2022 is a blunt tool. Those who can pay should not be able to use measures designed to protect the vulnerable to avoid paying rent. The government should extend business rates relief for the same period so that commercial property owners whose income has also fallen can benefit from further support.”
