London First comments on Letwin amendment
20 October 2019
Responding to the Letwin amendment passing Jasmine Whitbread, Chief Executive of London First, said:
“Most businesses were resigned to the Government’s imperfect Brexit compromise as better than leaving the EU without a deal.
“Parliament is right to want to ensure that there is a stable majority to pass the necessary legislation, but it is far from certain such a majority exists.
“Three governments and two Parliaments have taken more than three years debating our future relationship with the EU. MPs now have two choices. Either back the Prime Minister’s withdrawal agreement and end the three-year cloud of uncertainty which has hung over the country, and move on to negotiating the best long-term relationship possible with the EU.
“Or, Parliament can take this momentous decision back to the British people, giving us all a clear choice between the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement or remaining in the EU.”
