Commenting on the extension of the Help to Buy scheme, Programme Director Stephanie Pollitt said:
“Extending the Help to Buy scheme will be a welcome relief for thousands of people who have had home ownership delayed by the pandemic, and will be a necessary boost to the housing sector, which has seen projects stall over the last few months. However, this is only a short term solution to our protracted housing crisis. If the bigger issues are left unresolved, London’s ability to attract talent and maintain a competitive edge will suffer at a time when it will be heavily needed during recovery.
“The pandemic has exposed the need for more affordable homes, and now is the time to deliver a sustained and targeted programme for low income earners and key workers. The housing sector must be firing on all cylinders if no one is to be left behind in London’s recovery.”
