London First response to the Prime Minister's speech
2 October 2019
Responding to Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s speech at the Conservative Party Conference, London First’s Chief Executive Jasmine Whitbread said:
“London’s businesses are absolutely clear that a no-deal Brexit would damage the economy, so while it was positive to hear the Prime Minister reaffirm that he wants to avoid a chaotic exit, his words must now be matched by his actions.
“Although the speech reiterated welcome commitments to rolling out full-fibre broadband, references to boosting infrastructure and housebuilding, the Prime Minister again championed a points-based immigration system without giving any further insight into how it will work for the UK. A new system that keeps the UK economy at full strength must include bringing the salary threshold down from £30,000 to around £20,000.”
