In early 2019 we convened a group of experts to discuss the Government’s plans to deliver one million new homes between Oxford and Cambridge by 2050 to boost it as a ‘world-leading economic place’, and to ask what this could mean for London.
There is no still no high-level statutory framework for delivery in the Arc, and a group of local authorities and businesses are calling for a regional transport body to support the growth envisaged.
Meanwhile, in London, the draft new London Plan has had its housing targets reduced significantly below forecasted need. And the new standard method for calculating housing need suggests that the strategy for London to contain its own growth cannot be sustained.
Our panel of experts, lead by Bridget Rosewell CBE, Economist and Commissioner for the National Infrastructure Commission, debate the opportunities and challenges facing the delivery of the Oxford-Cambridge Arc.
