The road to COP26: delivering skilled workers for London’s transition to a net zero economy

As London starts to recover from the pandemic, attention is on how we ​‘build back better’, with COP26 taking place in the UK this year, ambitious targets set to move towards a net zero economy, and a government commitment to create two million green jobs in the UK over the next decade. But there are key questions to answer: what do we mean by green jobs? What are the specific green skills we’ll need now and in the future? How do we build an inclusive, green workforce? This roundtable brought together leading businesses, educators and policy makers to tackle these questions and identify what’s required for green London.

This webinar focused on TfL’s commercial property development activity, particularly development above stations; its considerable retail holdings including its portfolio of Arches and how improvements to these assets can deliver social and community benefits; its approach to jobs, skills and training and the role of inclusion and diversity within that; and the role that innovation will play in its property development programme.

Launch of the London First Housing Partnerships Publication

A London First publication in partnership with AECOM considers the delivery of homes through local authority and private sector collaboration. The briefing looked specifically at the Joint Venture model, and members heard from both London borough representatives and private developers on their view to such partnerships and the benefits of partnership working.

London First, Network Rail, Transport for London, the Rail Delivery Group (which represents all regional operators) and London & Partners discuss the latest operational, communications, and funding challenges across the capital, and how they are collaborating to encourage passengers back on to public transport in the coming months.

The first in a series of two briefings, this webinar focused on TfL’s significant residential development plans including its future pipeline; its approach to design; the importance of sustainability and how it engages with local communities, with a particular focus on a site in Ealing where they received resolution to grant planning permission earlier this year.
