Sadiq Khan said that solving London’s housing crisis was one of his key priorities. Three years into his term there is a still a long way to go to build the homes we need across the capital.
Whilst the Mayor has acknowledged the task ahead is ‘a marathon, not a sprint’, we believe there is more within his control to get London building.
We are calling for the Mayor to take a more proactive approach to bringing land forward for development, using his existing powers and his influence. We would like to see a more robust use of compulsory purchase powers in order to bring land forward and also to consider a revised approach to developing on Green Belt land.
We are working with PwC and our business steering group to explore how the GLA could increase the size of its £250m Land Fund. With land at a premium in the capital, we’ll be identifying options to boost the size of the Land Fund. Look out for our final report early next year.
