Programme Director, People & Immigration
Sophia is London First’s Programme Director – People & Immigration, leading on the Organisation’s immigration and Brexit policy and positioning. During her time, she has also worked on its skills and economic development strategy, as well as its Growing Together strategy to better link policy aims of metro cities in England.
Prior to joining London First, Sophia worked for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and for UN Migration (IOM) in Cairo on migration and refugee issues, including policy during the ‘refugee crisis’ in Europe. She has worked together with national governments around the Mediterranean Sea to establish a fact base on actual movements of migrants and refugees.
Previous roles with the German Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, Thyssen Krupp and Deutsche Bank have focussed on market and commodity analysis.
Sophia holds a double degree in International Economics and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Tuebingen and the University of Michigan as well as Master’s degree in International Relations and Migration Studies from the University of Amsterdam.
Sophia was born in Germany but has spent many years of her life living abroad in South Africa, the US, Egypt, the Netherlands and now the UK.
