Londoners need a sustainable, inclusive public transport network to keep our city moving. The transport network is the veins and arteries of the city, and without it, London comes to a standstill.
As the city recovers from the pandemic, we must look to the future of the network and ensure it can continue to travel commuters and visitors across the city. The Elizabeth Line is a shining example of things done right and the future of London’s transport network.
But to plan for the future, we must have a clear and long-term funding plan in place. Londoners should not live in uncertainty of disruption and cuts to services but instead have the confidence to travel safe and reliable transport across the capital.
Above ground, quicker journeys and guaranteed levels of investment will help us hit our net-zero targets and avoid total gridlock on the roads.
BusinessLDN will work to protect our public transport services and help develop new opportunities to keep Londoners moving as the city grows.
Funding for London’s transport system must:
- Enable sufficiently inclusive, affordable, and frequent bus, train and Tube services so
that public transport use can increase, especially as London recovers from the pandemic
and patterns of demand change; - Incentivise efficient, safe and reliable transport services;
- Helps the capital to achieve its net zero and clean air goals;
- Provides medium-to-long-term certainty so that the capital investments London needs
can be planned and developed; and - Maintain Transport for London as an integrated transport authority with the independence to make operational decisions and renewals investments.
