Green Skills: the action required to build an inclusive and green workforce for a sustainable London

The Mayor has set an ambitious target for London to become a net-zero city by 2030. Equipping people with green skills at all levels across the capital’s sectors will be vital to achieving this and transitioning to a sustainable society more broadly. As the new London Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) sets out, there is a growing need to increase provision, create clearer pathways for young people, and support those already in work to retrain or upskill. Yet, many employers face difficulties understanding their green skills needs, making it harder to meet demand for this fast-evolving skill set. At this BusinessLDN event hosted by Leonie Cooper AM at City Hall, in partnership with WSP, we will discuss how we overcome these challenges in the context of delivering the LSIP and kickstart a green skills revolution. We will hear from Shirley Rodrigues, Deputy Mayor for Environment & Energy and Leonie Cooper, London Assembly Member and leading voice on the environment, alongside WSP and other employers, together with educators on what a compelling green skills strategy for London might look like, and how through a partnership approach we can build a truly green and inclusive London workforce.
