Delivering the London Local Skills Improvement Plan

The government’s NHS Long Term Workforce Plan sets out a vision to train, retain and reform the workforce, and put the NHS on a sustainable footing. Yet as the London Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) sets out, there are over 30,000 vacancies in the health service in the capital, and the social care sector also faces labour shortages and high staff turnover. From nurses and paramedics to many back-office roles, both sectors are struggling to access the talent they need. At this session, we will discuss how we can overcome these challenges in the context of delivering the LSIP and help to transform London’s health and social care workforces. We will hear from leading voices in both sectors and training providers about how we can increase flexibility and career progression opportunities, harness new digital technologies, and create new routes like apprenticeships to increase recruitment and retention.
